my brighton cribbed

I still cannot find any pics of the chalets --- this old card seems to show bathing machines near where the chalets are now, being where the Royal Crescent steps are.

The first road along the base of the base of the East Cliff. In the 19th century it was a popular promenade, especially for invalids. It was known as Madeira Road until the First World War.

really old post card

The street, then called Madeira Road, had been paved so early motoring events could be staged there.
There were also gardens and lawns roughly where the Yellowave beach sports centre is today, about half way between the Palace Pier and the marina.
The Madeira Lift, now promised restoration, was then fairly new. It took people from the King’s Cliff area down to the seafront through a shelter hall, now Concord 2.

some postcard views

this train runs behind the huts every 20 minutes in the summer. it is not very noisy.

with a zoom, you can just see the huts, if you know where you are looking. it seems to have been taken from a window at the top of the Royal Albion Hotel at long time ago.

even with a zoom, you cannot see the huts as the tide is so low.....

i liked this postcard as a small piece of local history. This concrete sculpture was in Churchill Square, behind B&H and opposite Habitat. The chalet beach huts are in the same material.
